Recently, I asked the readers of my blog to provide feedback on how I could support their multi-tiered systems of supports efforts (MTSS). I sent the survey out to our blog subscribers and over social media. We received 22 responses over one month. Thank you to everyone who participated! While this survey does not include a large sample, it does provide some insights into the struggles of people who are connecting to this blog around secondary school MTSS issues.
The following provides the results by question.
Question #1
What is your greatest challenge when it comes to using a multi-tiered framework for creating/supporting effective secondary school settings?
My take away: Most of my blog’s readers struggle with too many conflicting priorities and limited knowledge-base of their staff around MTSS interventions.
Response: Find ways to help people improve their ability to work efficiently across multiple initiatives.
Question #2
What’s missing out there? What supports do you wish someone would create to help you in your work with secondary schools?
(Open Ended Question) If you said you would like to see other support, what would they look like?
- How to Videos or Online Courses
- Communities of practice centered on implementation
- Watching and reading
My take away: Most of my readers would like access to one-page overviews of evidence-based practices, with perhaps brief online courses being a distant second need.
Response: Provide information in infographic format.
Questions #3
How do you prefer to learn (watching, listening, reading, doing, other)?
(Open Ended Question) If you said there are other ways you prefer to learn, please your thoughts describe here:
- Visuals/videos also sharing and showing model schools
- hard to choose just one response; videos, podcasts, reading and doing all enhance understanding and practice
My take away: Most of our readers prefer watching videos, reading, or applying what their learn to develop their knowledge base.
Response: Develop short and infographics that can help readers work more efficiently in secondary settings.
Question #4
What level would you say you are at for supporting effective secondary schools?
My take away: Most of the readers of my blog, at least the ones who responded, have some experience in supporting secondary schools.
Response: Create materials that focus on individuals with some background knowledge of schoolwide supports, and address their needs for implementation.
